What is Celebration of Sacrifice?

Memorial Day weekend is intended to be a time of remembrance, honor, and respect of those who have paid, or been willing to pay, the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. Celebration of Sacrifice is a chance for the members of our community to share with us the stories of their veterans – The Warriors They Knew.

The date is planned for May 27th-28th, 2023.  During the weeks prior, we will be accepting memorabilia from our community to be put on display in a 2-day Military Museum. These items would be anything from folded flags to mementos relating to their veteran’s time in the service, such as uniforms, pictures, dog tags, medals, weapons (carefully secured!), and a host of other items. Great care will be taken to display each with the honor and reverence they deserve. On the 27th, we will open the display for viewing by the public. At this time, families can enjoy the museum, as well as be available to share the stories of their warriors with those interested.

On Sunday, Crossroads Baptist Church will host our Celebration of Sacrifice Honor Service.  Honoring our veterans, both living and passed, will be Senator Kevin Daley, Representative and veteran Jaime Greene, Lapeer County VA Director Pete Kirley, and former 82nd Airborne Division Sergeant and Michigan’s 2010 NCO of the Year Jay Goldsborough. Sergeant Goldsborough is also a veteran of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Both before and after the ceremony, the museum will once again be open for viewing.

Display Guidelines

  • PLEASE BE SURE TO LIST ALL ITEMS YOU ARE BRINGING FOR DISPLAY ON THE REGISTRATION. WE WANT TO GET EVERYTHING BACK TO YOU!
  • Please keep items to a specific military nature.  The items should reflect your veteran's time in the service.
  • Please keep all items family friendly.
  • Uniforms - It is difficult to display slacks, so please bring in shirts or jackets on a hanger. We will provide a way to display them.  If they are already prepared in a display, that is sufficient.
  • Pictures - framed pictures are easier to display, but not necessary.
  • If you are bringing any weapons, please have them disabled in some way. (Removed firing pins, trigger or action locks on firearms, knives in sheaths or covers of some kind.)
  • We reserve the right to deny the display of any items deemed inappropriate for the community or the event.
